Sue McCann is both a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor,
specializing in helping counselor interns and therapists to acquire expertise in working with families using evidence-
based, creative interventions. Sue was singularly instrumental in bringing the highly-acclaimed Primary Project from
the Children’s Institute of Rochester, NY, to Louisiana, and has provided directorship for and clinical oversight of
these services in public and private elementary schools in the New Orleans area in recent years. Under her direction
and supervision, Focus on Families’ Primary Project program continues to positively impact and support children and
their families in three schools in Harvey, Metairie, and New Orleans. Sue owns a private outpatient psychotherapy
practice in Metairie, LA, and this year she initiated with two elementary schools the provision of additional supportive
services, culminating in Focus on Families contracting to provide part-time counselors at two elementary schools to
afford the school communities access to direct counseling services. Sue is highly regarded by her colleagues for her
extensive experience as well as her propensity to share her skills with other professionals through training
opportunities offered by Insights of New Orleans. A published author and polished trainer, Sue has delivered over 70
presentations including state, national, and international conferences as well as for the administrators and
management personnel of a Fortune 500 company. She was invited last year to be a key speaker at the 25th
anniversary of the Children’s Institute in Rochester, NY, the home office and birthplace of Primary Project.

Focus on Families was officially designated a 501 (c) (3) organization in February 2007. Many volunteer hours have been
dedicated to ensuring that our mission, direction, and goals remain succinct, strong and in clear focus as we continue to grow.
Our administrative office and records are maintained in Montz, LA, with services directed and provided through our Metairie,
LA, office in a location easily accessible from all over the New Orleans area. Presently, Focus on Families provides direct on-
campus services to children in elementary schools in New Orleans, Metairie, and Harvey, LA, supports clinical services to
children and families of at least six other schools, and supplements the provision of counseling interventions to an increasing
number of area individuals, couples, and families.
We believe in the sanctity of the family
